The Thursday night in Houston that doesn't pretend it's a Friday. Tokyo Joe's is a two-floor shot bar and nightclub at Beall and 20th in the Heights. On Thursdays DJ Icon runs the booth, the bartenders pour from the bar top, the dragon over the DJ breathes CO2 on the crowd, and the Texas Special is $2.50 from open to close.
It's called College Night because that's who shows up, but there's no student ID at the door and no cover, ever. 21 and up with a real ID, same as every night. The ping pong table downstairs turns into the dance floor around 11. Upstairs has its own bar, a couch, the claw machines and a stripper pole if you need a minute, or the opposite of a minute.
Doors at 6. Happy hour till 9 is $4 wells and $3.50 Michelobs; after that it's the $2.50 Texas Special and $6 Ranch Waters. Free lot on site plus free street parking. Take the Uber anyway.
